THE THEORY TEST
Before you can take an in-car driving test you must first pass a theory test
which consists of 50 multiple-choice questions of which you must get at least 43
correct. You will be required to choose one or more correct answers from the
several answers offered to you and you will have 57 minutes to complete the
test. You do not need to pass your theory test before you start taking driving
lessons. Most learners study for their theory test whilst they are having
lessons with a driving instructor. When you sit your theory test you will have
to present your provisional licence. The topics covered on the theory test
include hazard perception and awareness, attitude and alertness, vehicle safety
and handling as well as the rules of the road, motorways and road and traffic
signs. Tests are conducted Monday to Saturday both during the day and in the
evenings. The result will be available within an hour of the test being
completed but if you fail you must wait three days before you can sit it
again.
